Our eating areas could use some touch ups. There's bumps and slopes that can be quite annoying. It's a race for kids to have the ‘best seat’ around the lunch eating area, if you're too late, hey, there's always that spot on the ground! I think, we should put some brand new marvelous funky; barbecue tables in our sheppard area. It would be a GREAT opportunity for our school, and to make lunch time; a lovely place to eat and socialize with our friends. We have some fabulous seats now, but how about turning it up a notch? The tables would be a perfect opportunity for every student. Socializing is a MAJOR part in our lunch time, it is about spending time with your friends and the most important… EATING! So let's make an opportunity bloom! Why not!?
The whole of Sheppard area has contributed ideas on why we would need them. Why WOULD we need them? Well I was thinking, socializing, comfort and class time. They would be some of the MAIN reasons why we would need them, because we all like to talk to our friends, (socialize) and we all like to be able to talk to the person in front of you; beside you or diagonally facing you. With the seats NOW, we are only able to talk to the person beside us, left and right. Whereas if we had the BBQ tables; we would be able to talk to the person in front, to the side, AND diagonally, how cool would that be! Then there's comfort, we want to be nice and comfortable, (those seats look pretty comfy) well this can be annoying, our lunch boxes fly off our thighs when we eat. It’s the seats that slope so it falls. Wouldn’t it be MUCH more hygienic if we had the tables? Firstly, food would not fall on the ground when we eat, and finally; our lunch boxes would STAY put where they're supposed to be.
For making money, I was thinking; we could do a fundraiser and save up enough to buy roughly 5 tables. Each student would have to raise a fund of at least $10 to help out in buying the tables. All excess money could be used for helping out our school. Like we could spend it on school supplies. Or just to help out those other niggly little jobs around our school; maybe even sprucing up some OTHER, lunch eating areas like Hillary, Nepia or Te Kanawa. I had some ideas that we could use to MAKE, the money… We could help people around our area; We can host a BBQ to collect some money, which ties into making baked goods, we could even have a garage sale! See; all these ideas would come into good use, we are tying our project in with our topic, change makers. We are making a change to our SCHOOL, and the students!
So what about that ‘excess’ money; what could it go to. Well; we could spend it on helping OTHER, lunch eating areas, Hillary, Nepia or Te Kanawa. Possibly even fixing some flowerbeds or gardens. Planting some greenery in our nature trail, and so on. We could even give some to the canteen so we can have more yummy treats! Wouldn’t that be cool!
All in all, I think we should get these AMAZING, OUTSTANDING, FUNKY tables! Wouldn’t it be such a treat for all the students! These tables provide us with the three points I made in the second paragraph; socializing, we would be able to talk to more people, maybe even make some new friends! Comfort, our seats NOW slip off our laps because they slope and can be quite uncomfortable to sit on. And one of the MOST important… class time. With these tables, we are able to learn whilst we can all be required with a bit of fresh air! These tables would be the PERFECT opportunity for all of Sheppard and the school.
