Technology- Emergency Light

In technology we have been making emergency lights. It has been a lot of fun! So far I am up to hot glueing, (the final stage) as you can see in this picture below.

I used the colours rainbow as you can see in the picture above. We had to do A LOT I think I did pretty well, trust me it isn't easy! It is really cool how you do it BY YOURSELF, not really any help unless you don't understand.

We have to do A LOT of soldering and A LOT of connecting, but it gets REALLY exciting when you get into nearly finishing! On my front cover, I have a picture of an ambulance, and my flashing lights are above it, here is my front cover,

P.E, Rugby Skills, Passing

In P.E we have been doing rugby. For our first time, we did rugby passes, we got into a small group and stood in a line, one person on the end would be holding the rugby ball. Then we threw the ball to the person next to us, we had to make sure that the person with the ball had to be in front of everybody. We were making sure that we were swinging as the ball went across our body, and when we were throwing the ball, and when we were catching we had our arms ready to catch the ball. We started off walking and passing and then we moved onto jogging, once we had finished our passes we played a game. The aim of the game was to try and get a 'try' in a small area, we had to sort ourselves into two teams. One team started with the rugby ball, you throw the ball to someone in your team and try and get to the side of the box to win and get the try, I enjoyed P.E I liked doing the passes and the game was lots of fun!

Everyday Life Symmetry

In Rm 12B for maths we have been doing everyday life symmetry. What we had to do was collect some photos of everyday life symmetry, we had to place them on a google drawing and figure out how much lines of symmetry each photo had, this is my one,

This Shell Has 1 Line Of Symmetry

This Leaf Has 1 Line Of Symmetry

These Music Notes Have 1 Line Of Symmetry In Each One

This Table Has 1 Line Of Symmetry

These Teeth Have 1 Line Of Symmetry

This Tomato Has 1 Line Of Symmetry

This Orange Has Many Different Lines Of Symmetry

This Butterfly Has 1 Line Of Symmetry

Protractors

Last week, and this week, we have been working on protractors in maths. We had to measure and find out the degree of different shapes. After we had done that, we made some tables out of paper in shapes of, rectangles, squares and triangles. Here is my one, we had to add up the total of all our angles on each shape, when we add up triangles, they all equal 180 degrees.

Powhiri

Today when we did our Powhiri, we started with a Karanga. We called on the Manuhiri. Once the Manuhiri sat down, Fergus stood up and spoke. After Fergus had finished our class, (room 12b) sung a waiata, Tutira Mai Nga Iwi. After, room 6  stood and spoke once they had done that they sung a waiata and presented the Koha and finally sat. Fergus stood and took the Koha, and then we did a Hongi with the other class. Once that had finished, we all entered the hall (marae) and shared our banners explaining a little more about them. once we had both done that we all walked to our class and shared learning and some kai I was in the group that shared our money slides, then room 6 wen't back to their class.

First Day At Electronics

Today was my first day at Electronics, I looked at the Get Ready Get Thru website and learned how to be prepared for an emergency. We also learnt that we should be prepared for any type of emergency, If I prepared a kit for an emergency, my family would need a torch with batteries or a self chargeable torch, food and water for 3 days including the pets and a radio. We looked at some helpful tips and what sort of supplies you would need in an emergency helping your pets and just for you and your family. Altogether I would need 45 Litres for my family and my pets. We watched a few clips on Get Ready Get Thru and it showed us and reminded us that we need to be prepared for any emergency anytime anywhere, they demonstrated what it would be like if it happened the next morning or at night how you would be prepared once you woke up knowing you had supplies.

Anzac 8 Tasks

Anzac 8 Eight Tasks

Gallipoli Map
Last term me and some other girls in our class made a 3d gallipoli map. We used scrunched newspaper and stuck it on. Once we had done that we used white paper cut it into strips and stuck it on top of the newspaper to give it an effect we used pva glue. After we had done that we painted the hills and I chose to outline mine in yellow to give it some texture and an effect. After we had finished all of that we wrote in vivid and labeled some of the places such as, Anzac Cove, Sulva Point, Sulva Bay, The Dardanelles and C. Helles. I found it hard to paint the dardanelles there were bits of newspaper everywhere! Making these 3d maps was loads of fun and I like what I made, here is my one.

James Martin Anzac Task

James Martin
Who is James Martin? James Martin was the youngest Australian anzac soldier, he was only 14 when he joined the army; he was the youngest Australian known to have died in World War I. He was one of 20 Australian soldiers under the age of 18 known to have died in World War I. His full name was James Charles Martin, although he was rather called Jim. His date of birth was on the 3rd of January 1901, and died on the 25th of October 1915, James Martin was born to Amelia and Charles Martin in Tocumwal, New South Wales. His father was born Charles Marks, in Auckland, New Zealand. At war, after suffering mild symptoms for about a fortnight during which time he refused treatment, he was evacuated to the hospital Glenart Castle 25 October 1915 after he developed diarrhoea. He died of heart failure that night, at the age of 14 and nine months, and was buried at sea the next day. At the time of his death only Martin's parents and his best friend, Cec Hogan who was himself only 16 knew Martin's real age.
James Martin Letter
Thank you again for letting me coming to war. It hasn’t been so bad but I am hoping it will finish soon… Not that it will. The Turks are still about 70 yards away from us, don’t worry I am doing splendid over here. I don’t like the conditions it is so muddy here, although I should have seen it coming. I am surprised I have not fallen yet however I am suffering some minor injuries but I am coping. At the moment currently I am not able to tell the time, in fact I don’t think anybody does, I might ask my mate a bit later… For now I will hope for the best, especially when it comes to my duty to guard watch the base while fellows rest. I am eating a stale biscuit right now, it is the only treat we get! But it is better than nothing. I kind of wish I chose not to go, although it feels good to fight for your country, right? I'm not sure about the other guys but it is getting very tense in the trench, fights have been picking up over who is doing what duty, it is doing my head in! I don't think they realise that they probably won't see daylight tomorrow, guess we'll wait and see. I don't know how much but I am guessing 16 men have died already, hopefully be the 17th, anyway, send the family my love and I hope for the best, stay in touch soon!
Sincerely, James

Quick Write

This week, we were doing a quick writing task. We had a maximim of 10 minutes to complete this. In it we had to include 5 words that were the complete opposite of what was happening in the picture. The words were, fun, run, billings, unicorn and santa. The focus in this was getting ideas down, the picture was about explosions. Here is the photo and my piece of writing.
“Santa Unicorns! That’s all I ever want” yelled Mr Billings “well actually I wish I had hair” he pulled a face, I can’t wait to do the fun run thought Mr Billings; it will be sooo FUN! That night the fun run took place near a construction site about to be finished, “I know I will bring my favourite car because it will be fun! Thought Mr Billings. That night Santa arrived at the showdown of the fun race to give presents to the kids at the fun race, “Aww I want a present” Yelled Mr Billings so loud everyone heard him, even Santa. Mr Billings started to cry very loudly he got Cary (HIS CAR) and started the engine, this fun run is a DUMB RUN!!!! Yelled Mr Billings with fury as he rammed Cary into the fun run, explosive TNT and explosions were everywhere lying down blowing up every second, fortunately Mr Billings did not survive, neither did Cary.

Cyber Safety Word Cloud

We watched a video about Patty on Youtube. In this video a girl was being very mean to Patty, saying horrible things to her face.

The message about this was: If you wouldn't say it in person, why say it online?

Here is the Tagul I made.

Maths Place Value - Wishball

The other day we did a maths game online which involved subtraction and addition of place value. A number was randomly drawn and we had to add this or take this away from one of the place value. We had to reach a target number using addition and subtraction in less than 20 turns. there were different modes you could do. We could choose from whole numbers to thousandths.
